Storm Devastation Pervades Long Island Community Of Bayville
BAYVILLE, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- The Nassau County, Long Island, community of Bayville remained devastated by Superstorm Sandy this week, but the mayor said the damage could have been far worse.
As 1010 WINS' Holli Haerr reported, one resident, Elaine, has been sorting through her belongings in her flooded apartment, trying to save what she can.

"Total devastation," Elaine said. "I've pretty much lost everything in my apartment."
She said there were 4 to 5 feet of water in her apartment during the storm, and the walls have to be replaced.
Another resident, Katie Byrne, cannot live in her home. Power lines were strewn about on the ground in front of the house, which was flooded during the storm.
"The smell is pretty intense in the house, and we have two little kids," Byrne said.
Efforts to pump out the house have failed, she said.
"The water table is high, and it keeps on coming up when we try to pump," Byrne said.
For now, her family is staying in hotel. But Molly, 5, and Kyle, 7, want to go home.
Molly called the situation "awful," while Kyle said he misses his Nintendo Wii.
And it was not only homes that needed to be fixed in Bayville. Shore Road, one of two ways into the community, remained closed Tuesday due to storm damage.
"It needs some major work," said Mayor Doug Watson.
Watson said people are working together, and compared to some other places, "we are a lot luckier than we could have been."
