Stories From Main Street: Nyack Mom Develops Playdate Planet To Help Get Kids Together

NYACK, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) - Life is hectic. Sometimes there isn't much time for the little ones to play, let alone for mom and dad to make the arrangements. That's where Playdate Planet comes in.

WCBS 880's Sean Adams On The Story

Podcast

"It's an online way for parents to schedule playdates for their kids. It's quick, it's easy, and it allows you to connect to a lot more people and get your kids playing," Nyack's Lisa Baslow told WCBS 880 reporter Sean Adams.

Baslow and her childhood friend Meryl Neiman developed Playdate Planet after getting sick and tired of all the back and forth of scheduling, reported Adams.

"You start calling down the line of parents to see who's available. You try to match up your schedules. What if you can't get in touch with them? Do you leave a message and wait for them to call back or do you invite the next kid and then what if the first one calls back?" said Baslow.

With Playdate Planet, there is no more hustling. Just post the playdate and send it to everyone on your list.

"Once you're connected, you just create a playdate, which is really just notifying however many of your friends you decide to notify that your child is available to play," Baslow said.

Your profile can alert parents to important information.

"If they have a pool, if they have a trampoline, if the child has medical conditions like diabetes, allergies," Baslow said.

You can set up playdates just for school friends, or the baseball team, or the Girl Scout troop, and you can get creative with your invitations.

"We've had plenty of just regular old kids over for play. But I've also done one where we've made volcanoes. My husband did one where they did make your own pizzas," Baslow said.

That's right. Playdate Planet is not just for moms.

"Dads can use it too and nannies can use it and grandparents can use it," Baslow said.
