Stories from Main Street: Montclair, NJ
MONTCLAIR, NJ (WCBS 880) - Fill her up! Tom Moloughney doesn't have to say that anymore.
LISTEN: WCBS 880's Sean Adams reports
"This is my Mini E. It's a 100% electric Mini Cooper," Moloughney told WCBS 880 reporter Sean Adams.
Moloughney is one of a handful of drivers testing the Mini E for BMW.
No. It is not like a golf cart.
Moloughney says, "This car is 204 horsepower. It moves."
He gave a demonstration to Sean Adams, who reacted by saying, "Yeah... You're up to speed now. I mean, you went 0 to 40 in a couple of seconds there, and I was pushed back in the seat."
Just plug it in. A three-hour charge on a 220-volt line will cost $3 to $4. You'll get 100 to 120 miles.
It's perfect for Tom's 60+ mile commute from Chester to Montclair.
"This car fits my driving needs and I've had it for 15 months. I've driven it 40,000 miles... and I've never had an instance where I've run out of charge - ever. I've come low a few times," says Tom.
His electric car is truly a zero-emissions vehicle.
Tom says, "My solar electric system produces all of the electric for my car and almost three-quarters of the electric for my household."
