One young girl, Angie, was desperately hungry. She was trying to sell a drawing of a lotus on lined paper.

"So I bought papers and I bought some glitter markers, which the girls really love," said Boekholt-Daly.

She also bought them paint and says, "They would draw water from the Ganges (River) and we would just mix the colors."

Soothing shades of purple and orange would be put on paper.

"They started drawing flowers, school, children, puppets. They tell me that they enjoy doing it and enjoy the process and that they were really liking this kind of flow, like, you know, in a happy zone and I think, for that little while, they forgot also about where the next meal would come from," says Boekholt-Daly.

She brought the paintings home and had them printed as cards. She sells them to family and friends.

She founded Children of the Ganges. The money will fund a learning center in India.
