Stink Bugs Hit East End Of Long Island
RIVERHEAD, NY (WCBS 880) - It's ugly, it stinks, and it has Long Island farmers on edge.
The skunkish smelling, dinosaur looking, crop devouring, brown marmorated stink bug has been spotted on Long Island.
It's being tracked by entomologists and has east end farmers and landscapers on alert.
"You know, especially with the economy is right now, the last thing I need is something else that's going to hurt my business," landscaper Chris Moore told WCBS 880 Long Island Bureau Chief Mike Xirinachs. "
Xirinachs remarked it was "one more economic punch."
Moore replied, "Yeah. Exactly, which we don't need."
Already responsible for hundreds of millions of dollars in crop damage across the country, experts say the hungry creature makes the bed bug resurgence look tame.
