Steve Smith Doesn't Regret Leaving Giants, Would 'Rather Have More Money'
NEW YORK (WFAN) -- The "Dream Team" Eagles? Yeah, they're 3-6.
Wide receiver Steve Smith has been a minor piece to the puzzling puzzle in Philadelphia, but he still doesn't regret leaving the NFC East-leading Giants (6-3).
"Oh, no. It's a business," Smith told the New York Post on Wednesday. "I'd rather have more money in my pocket."
Before the season, the Giants thought Smith would likely need six to eight additional weeks to fully recover from microfracture surgery on his left knee. Add that to the $1 million offer presented by the team, and the wideout decided the time was right to walk away.
So instead Smith signed a one-year, $2.3 million deal with the Eagles. He returned earlier than expected, as promised, but has only recorded 10 receptions for 110 yards in seven games for Philadelphia.
"It's been a tough season," Smith told the paper. "But it's been a good season because I (surpassed) expectations of myself by playing ... when everybody thought I was going to be on the (PUP list)."
Smith sounding off on Big Blue really isn't anything new. He got the ongoing Giants-Eagles war of words started before the season.
"I used to hate the Eagles, now I don't like the Giants," Smith told The Post after signing with Philadelphia in August. "I've still got ex-teammates that are friends there, but I definitely want to get on that field for the Eagles now. I want to say I won a Super Bowl for both teams."
Well, we'll see who gets the last word on Sunday -- and at season's end.
