Stephen Shand Faces Murder, Sex Assault Charges In Killing Of Kathryn Filiberti
HYDE PARK, N.Y. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- The 23-year-old Hudson Valley newspaper deliveryman accused of killing a Hyde Park teen has been indicted on murder and sex crime charges.
Stephen Shand faces multiple counts of first- and second-degree murder, kidnapping and predatory sexual assault in an indictment that was unsealed Thursday.
Authorities said he was on delivery rounds when he encountered 18-year-old Kathryn Filiberti sometime between 3 a.m. and 6 a.m. on March 19 after she left a party on foot in Hyde Park.
The indictment says Shand raped, strangled and drowned the teen, a Dutchess Community College freshman and star gymnast in high school.
Shand's lawyer has said he will plead not guilty at his arraignment Friday in Dutchess County Court.
