2 Men Arrested Following Police-Involved Shooting On Staten Island
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police said two men face multiple charges following an early morning police-involved shooting and manhunt on Staten Island.
It all happened around 1:10 a.m. Thursday in the area of Kreischer and Androvette streets in the Charleston section.
Patrick Allen, 24, of Staten Island, was charged with more than a dozen counts late Thursday night, including attempted murder, attempted assault on a police officer with a deadly weapon and several other weapons charges, authorities said. Jonathan Derbyshire, also 24 and from the same address, faces multiple counts as well.
NYPD Chief of Patrol Terence Monahan said officers were responding to calls about gunshots and saw two men, 1010 WINS' Sonia Rincon reported.
"One male runs into the woods, a second male steps out, produces a 9mm gun and points it at the officers. That man has been identified as Patrick Allen," Monahan said.
Police said the officers fired multiple times, hitting Allen in the left leg and arm and possibly striking a tactical vest police said he was wearing.

Officer: Central. "Shots fired! Androvette and Kreischer! Androvette and Kreischer!"
Dispatch: "Which unit is calling shots fired?"
Officer: "We got one male down, we got another perp. 10-13, 10-13. Shots fired!"
Police said a massive manhunt ensued for the second man who was seen running off into the woods.
"As we followed into the woods and canvassed the area, we recovered what appears to be an AR-15 semi-automatic rifle, evidence of several shells that may have been fired in that area in the woods, which is right off the street itself, and a hunting knife. A large hunting knife," NYPD Assistant Chief Edward DeLatorre said.
The overwhelming manpower that filled the neighborhood sent residents into a panic.
"They shut down the streets. If you came outta your house, they put guns on ya," a man named John told CBS2's Magdalena Doris. "He could be hiding on your back porch or something trying to get in to hide."
"It's really scary," another woman said. "How did these individuals purchase this? I don't know how they can have that."
With the help of Emergency Service Units, helicopters and the Special Response Group, the search ended a mile away from the shooting scene on Ellis Avenue.
Hours later, the second suspect, Derbyshire, was found, WCBS 880's Kelly Waldron reported. Police sources tell CBS2 he was found covered in mud trying to mask himself in the chest-high weeds, Doris reported.
"Both males are now currently under arrest," Monahan said. "We've recovered a total of four firearms."
Police released pictures of two of the weapons and the ballistic vest.
"It appears at this time, and it's still under investigation, that they were hanging out together at a house in the location and went out in the wooded area to test fire some guns," Monahan said.
For Police Commissioner James O'Neill it's been the third police involved shooting in as many days.
"I'm always concerned when there's an officer involved shooting, but we'll have to see. It's the beginning of the year. We'll have to see how it plays out," he said.
The suspect who was injured is in custody at the hospital. The two officers involved are doing well and were also taken to the hospital to be checked out.
The investigation is still ongoing.
