NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - The MTA toll hike plan released Monday calls for $15 cash toll on the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge, and one City Councilman raising his objection.

Currently, the cash toll is $13.00 ($9.60 with E-ZPass), but the proposal would hike the cash toll by $2 (E-Pass by $1).

"It's outrageous," Staten Island Republican City Council Member James Oddo told WCBS 880 reporter Rich Lamb. "I can't begin to tell you the psychological impact this has Staten Islanders. We are feeling the pinch on all fronts, bills are going up on all fronts, and then the exclamation point is this toll."

But the minority leader says he would accept an even higher cash toll, say $16 or $17, if the MTA kept the Staten Islanders' discount toll where it is.

Right now, Staten Island residents pay $5.76 with E-ZPass. That would go up by 60 cents to $6.36 under the present proposal.
