State Police To Resume Search For Possible Serial Killer In Long Island Bodies Case
WEST ISLIP, N.Y. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- New York State Police and local officers say they will resume their search for bodies in the ongoing investigation into a possible Long Island serial killer.
State Police say results of FBI aerial surveillance photography conducted in April are prompting a return to the area on Tuesday. The State Police did not specifically say if the FBI photos yielded additional evidence.
The search is moving eastward from Ocean Parkway to the nearby Robert Moses Causeway, which connects Long Island to the barrier island where remains of 10 people have been found since December.
Police believe a serial killer may be responsible for the deaths of at least four prostitutes whose bodies were found in the area. Authorities suspect additional killers may have also left victims along the remote parkway.
Authorities said the search will begin Tuesday morning around 9 a.m. The Robert Moses Causeway will have a single-lane of travel for "an indeterminate amount of time," state police said.
