State Lawmakers To Look Into NJ TRANSIT's Super Bowl Planning
TRENTON, N.J. (CBSNewYork) - State lawmakers will look into NJ TRANSIT's planning for the Super Bowl and for superstorm Sandy.
As WCBS 880's Sean Adams reported, lawmakers are seeking answers for a spate of recent fumbles and missteps.
State Lawmakers To Look Into NJ TRANSIT's Super Bowl Planning
State Sen. Robert Gordon from Fairlawn told The Record he sees a lackadaisical approach to planning.
Initially, next month's Senate Oversight Committee hearing was to focus on Sandy and the decision to store trains in flood-prone areas.
But the senator also wants to expand the focus to examine other problems, including the overcrowding logjam leaving Super Bowl XLVIII on Sunday, the problems with NJ TRANSIT's website and the expiration of trademarks for seven NJT logos.
Twice as many fans took NJ TRANSIT trains to the game than the transit agency projected.
"In light of the events at the Super Bowl, the scope is expanding beyond the failures of Sandy to really encompass what I consider poor incident planning, whether the incidents are a man-made event like a Super Bowl or a natural disaster like Sandy. There seems to be a pattern of poor preparation and planning," Gordon, a Democrat, told the paper.
The massive delays leaving MetLife Stadium came even after officials went to New Orleans last year to study the movement of people at the big game, Gordon noted.
The railroad has had no comment.
