State Investigating Some Nassau County Offices Over Sandy Clean-Up Efforts
NORTH MERRICK, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) - A state review of some of Long Island's handling of superstorm Sandy's aftermath is under way.
The New York State Attorney General's office has subpoenaed seven Nassau County offices, including the Office of the County Executive.
The probe will look into how Sandy contracts were awarded and how contractors performed.

"We welcome that inquiry. We're cooperating here in the county, we followed the procedures and the laws that were in place," Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano told WCBS 880's Sophia Hall.
As for reports that companies took down perfectly healthy trees to make more money, Mangano said that was not possible in Nassau.
"Each tree that was removed has a photo before it was removed, after it was removed and also a chain to where it was carted away. And by the way, if they didn't do that, they didn't get paid," said Mangano. "And we all have this in electronic form. You can go on an electronic map, just point to the area or the specific tree and you'll get all that information. That's why we welcome the inquiry, because I don't think the public understands the amount of electronic data and oversight that we captured."
Millions of dollars in federal aid went to Long Island to assist in the clean-up and recovery effort.
The attorney general's office did not return a call for comment.
