Starbucks Unveils New Delivery Service At Empire State Building
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- In Midtown, office workers can now get Starbucks delivered straight to their door.
The Seattle-based coffee company started a new delivery service within the Empire State Building today, giving office workers in the skyscraper the option of paying a $2 fee to avoid making a trip to the lobby.
Starbucks says the 12,000 employees who work in the building will be will be able to place orders on a designated website, and have their food and drinks delivered to a designated drop-off area -- like the office's reception desk -- within a half hour. Employees using the service will be charging a $2 flat delivery fee, with orders capped to 15 items per delivery.
If you don't work in the Empire State Building, don't feel left out -- Starbucks also offers a new mobile ordering service that allows users to skip the long lines at local locations by ordering ahead on their mobile devices for in-store pickup without the wait.
The Empire State Building's tenants include Shutterstock, Human Rights Watch and Skanska, according to the website of parent company Empire State Realty Trust.
Starbucks spokeswoman Haley Drage said the company will see how the pilot program in the Empire State Building goes before expanding it to other New York City buildings.
