Police Fatally Shoot Armed Suspect Following Standoff At Panera Bread Near Princeton University
PRINCETON, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) – Authorities say a man armed with a gun inside a restaurant across the street from Princeton University's campus has been shot and killed, following an hours-long standoff.
Police surrounded a Panera Bread on Nassau Street around 10 a.m. Tuesday, shutting down several blocks and nearby buildings.
Workers told CBS2 the suspect was a regular customer who walked in with a weapon and told everyone to get out.
Authorities previously said there were "no known hostages" and no one had been hurt.
As a precaution, two campus buildings – the Henry House and Scheide Caldwell House – were evacuated.
This week is the university's spring break, so classes were not in session.
It's unknown whether the man had any connection to the school.
