Special Election Next Tuesday To Replace Rep. Anthony Weiner
NEW YORK (WCBS 880) - Residents of New York's 9th Congressional District will go to the polls next Tuesday to select a replacement for former Rep. Anthony Weiner.

Republican Bob Turner is battling Democrat David Weprin for Weiner's seat. Turner says it's a race that can send a message about President Barack Obama's economic policies, while Sen. Charles Schumer and Weprin told seniors in Flushing Tuesday that Weprin would be a better defender of Medicare and Social Security.
"My opponent admires the leaders of the Tea Party. He's identified with the members of the Tea Party who clearly brought our country to the brink of default," said Weprin.
"When an opponent says 'Change Social Security and Medicare and don't do anything to prevent tax cuts on the rich,' he's representing an area that's not the 9th Congressional District," said Schumer.
To the suggestion the polls show a close race, Weprin says he's taken nothing for granted. Turner, on Twitter, called Weprin, hand-picked by the party in the race as quote "man vs. machine."
Turner also says a $14 trillion deficit is the most significant issue for the nation.
Weiner resigned in June after a sex scandal that involved him tweeting explicit photos of himself to women outside his marriage.
