Space Shuttle Enterprise Arrives In New Jersey En Route To Intrepid
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - The Space Shuttle Enterprise has arrived in New Jersey.
The craft was being towed from John F. Kennedy International Airport along the shores of Queens and Brooklyn on Sunday on its way to Port Elizabeth.
It passed the Gil Hodges Memorial Bridge at 3:30 p.m., passed Coney Island at 4:19 p.m. and went under the Verrazano Bridge at 5:34 p.m. before docking in New Jersey at 6 p.m.
On Tuesday morning at 9:15 a.m., the Enterprise will depart from Elizabeth, passing the Statue of Liberty at 9:50 a.m. and the World Trade Center at 10:40 a.m. before completing its journey to the Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum at 11:30 a.m., where it will be hoisted onto the flight deck.
There was a minor accident during today's movement; a wind gust caused the shuttle to graze a wood piling near a bridge, resulting in minor cosmetic damage.
The head of the Intrepid museum said that the Enterprise will not need any repairs.
