Sources: 2 Arrested For Breaking Into Actress Keri Russell's Home While She Slept
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - Two men climbed through the unlocked window of actress Keri Russell's brownstone home while she was asleep inside, sources said.
The break-in occurred on Hicks Street in Brooklyn Heights around 3 a.m. Wednesday, police said. The occupant was at home at the time, police said.
Sources told CBS 2 the occupant was Russell, 37.
The star of "Felicity" and "The Americans" was asleep downstairs at the time of the break-in, sources told CBS 2. She was awakened by the sound of footsteps and voices, sources said.
When she went upstairs, she found the window and front door of the building open. A MacBook computer, necklace, earrings and Filson bag were missing, sources said.
Russell then called 911.
The Golden Globe winner's publicist confirmed the break-in, telling CBS 2's Tony Aiello that Russell and her family are fine and thanking the NYPD for its response.
Another robbery took place at 54 Remsen Street, around the corner from Russell's home, just two hours later. In that robbery, the burglars stole another MacBook and an iPad, sources said.
The resident, a 70-year-old woman, woke up and spotted the intruder in her home and the lookout outside. She called 911 and gave police a description.
Police later arrested Stephan and Rodney Swindel. Rodney, 50, is Stephan Swindel's uncle. Both suspects have prior burglary convictions.
Some of the stolen property was recovered, sources said.
Both face burglary and possession of stolen property charges.
Russell is married to home builder Shane Deary, and the couple have two young children. The family has been living in the Brooklyn Heights duplex while their home in Boerum Hill is being renovated.
Outside the glamour and glitz of movie premieres, Russell lives a low-key life in Brooklyn Heights, Aiello reported.
She's been spotted time to time tooling around on a fancy Dutch bicycle with a child seat.
"She passes by sometimes," said neighbor Andrew Lasco.
But many of her neighbors were unaware of the star on their block.
"I have never seen her in the neighborhood," Jane Ziegelman said.
