Queens-Midtown Tunnel To Reopen Friday After Being Flooded By Sandy
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - For those trying to cross the East River, there is good news.
Both tubes of the Queens-Midtown Tunnel will reopen Friday morning at 6 a.m.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo made the announcement Thursday afternoon.
The tunnel, which is operated by the MTA, has been closed since it was flooded during superstorm Sandy.
Cuomo said that, though the tunnel will reopen Friday, there is still damage to be repaired. He said the lighting system is among those still in need of repair.
The Hugh L. Carey Tunnel has been closed since the storm, during which it filled to the ceiling with water all the way from Manhattan to Brooklyn. Cuomo didn't have an estimate for when it would reopen.
