President Barack Obama To Mark Osama Bin Laden's Death In NYC
WASHINGTON (CBSNewYork/AP) -- President Barack Obama will travel to New York City on Thursday to mark the death of al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden.
The White House says Obama will visit ground zero, the site of al-Qaida's attack on the World Trade Center, and meet with the families of those killed nearly 10 years ago.
U.S. forces killed bin Laden during a raid on a compound near Islamabad where he had been hiding. The U.S. retrieved bin Laden's body and buried it at sea.
Flag-waving crowds had gathered in Lower Manhattan after the President announced bin Laden's death late Sunday night.
"The death of bin Laden marks the most significant achievement to date in our nation's effort to defeat al-Qaida," Obama said Sunday.
