Some L.I. Schools Put On Department Of Education's Academic Watch List
GREAT NECK, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- If you ask parents in Great Neck, many will say they chose to live in the area because the school district is highly regarded.
But one of the district's schools, John F. Kennedy Elementary, has found itself on an academic "watch list" put together by the Department of Education, WCBS 880's Sophia Hall reported.
The list includes 35 schools that need to improve, according to a Newsday report. There's no word on why Kennedy was placed on the list.

Some others on the list include schools in the Lawrence, South Huntington, Plainedge and Malverne districts.
Hempstead High School has been placed on a priority list, Hall reported.
According to the Department of Education, it's one of the worst schools in all of New York State, with a graduation rate of 38 percent reported for the 2011-12 school year, Hall reported.
The principal, however, vows to make changes.
