WCBS 880's Sophia Hall reports
Chief Roy Gross of the Suffolk County SPCA says a last-minute appeal really helped.
"That was quite an increase. That's probably, it was maybe $5,000 or so on that appeal," Gross told WCBS 880 reporter Sophia Hall.
Gross also said that the SPCA not only helps rescue animals, but also has a rabies vaccination program, and when bad weather or an evacuation is needed, the agency helps with pet shelters.
The Salvation Army also saw donations rise about 5 percent in Nassau County, Long Island.
However, the Red Cross in Nassau says they saw a 17 percent decrease in donations.
