Some Advice On Finding Alternatives To Tight And Revealing Halloween Costumes

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- If you can't seem to find the right Halloween costume this year because everything looks too tight, you're not alone.

As CBS 2's Emily Smith reported, experts have some advice on ways to navigate the racy of frightening fashion.

"I think every year, it gets sexier," one woman said. "I mean, it's Halloween, but…"

Some women have no issues with throwing on a little Spandex and baring it all.

"It's no shame in it. Like, you want to be a little sexy," another woman said. "Like, I'm 30 years old, so let's show a little cleavage."

But for others, the whole naughty theme has become an epidemic. If in a pinch, style and trend expert Brittney Levine suggests buying the sexy costume and improvising.

"To not make the skirt too short, I paired leggings on the bottom," she said.

Levine also found a larger top from Screaming Mimi's to avoid showing her abdomen.

Looking for a semi-conservative Batgirl costume proved to be tough. But Smith herself pulled it off, adding an undershirt, a skirt, and opaque black tights in lieu of the tiny tutu.

Or you can go funny and completely covered up by renting a full-body costume turning you into a vegetable or some such thing, for about $50.

And if you look hard enough, you'll find there are two versions for every costume. Minnie Mouse can be found with ears and thigh-highs, but we more conservative alternatives to the same costume may be easy to find.

But for those in a hurry, and looking to blur the lines between revealing and not, a little tweaking may be necessary.

Ricky's Costume Shop said the top seller among Halloween costumes this year seems to be anything leopard or cat print. Such costumes do cover the entire body, but they are usually skin-tight.
