Sole Winning $130.3 Million Powerball Ticket Sold At Brighton Beach Deli
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - There's a new multi-millionaire in New York City following Saturday's Powerball drawing.
But as CBS 2's Hazel Sanchez reported, the identity of the winner remains a mystery.
The winning ticket was purchased at Rocco's Bakery and Deli in the Brighton Beach section of Brooklyn.
The manager of the store said he knows who the winner is.
"I'm happy that it was somebody from my store and it came out of my hand and I'm happy for that person as well. So hopefully, everybody benefits out of this," store manager Salah Alsulaimani told Sanchez.
Rocco's, on Brighton Beach Avenue, will get $10,000 for selling the winning Powerball ticket. Alsulaimani said he got word of the lucky sale on Sunday.
"I thought it was a prank until New York State Lotto called and confirmed it and I was doing cartwheels," he told Sanchez.
The New York State Lottery confirmed the sole winning ticket was purchased in Brooklyn on Saturday.
The ticketholder has yet to claim the $130.3 million jackpot.
Locals said they're thrilled to know that a win happened in their backyard.
"This is from the God," one Brighton Beach resident said.
Some said it gives them hope that they could be next to hit the jackpot.
"It could, it could! I wish it would, I need it right now," Feddy Ali told Sanchez.
The manager said the winner is a regular who buys lottery tickets almost on a daily basis.
The person has won small prizes here and there, the manager said, but certainly nothing as big as $130 million.
