Snowblowers Stolen In Upstate New York
POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (AP/WCBS 880) - With all the snow that's fallen on New York this winter, snowblowers are a hot commodity in Poughkeepsie.

Police say that they're looking for the thieves who've stolen seven snowblowers since Jan. 27. Detectives say they believe the machines are being stolen for resale and are checking online websites such as Craigslist to see if any of the snowblowers have been posted there for sale. Two have since been found abandoned on a street.

Poughkeepsie police Detective Sgt. Walter Horton says, "With the amounts of snow that we've had and the necessity for those machines, I think that's kind of prompted people to seek them out, take them from where ever they can get them."
Poughkeepsie has gotten more than 2 feet of snow from a series of storms in recent weeks. Most stores have sold out their supply of snowblowers and don't plan on ordering more.
With several weeks of winter remaining, police are advising owners to store their machines in a garage or shed, or lock them up with chains if kept outside.
Horton also recommends noting the serial number.
