New York City, Tri-State Area Getting One Last Blast From 'Old Man Winter'
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- New York City and its surrounding areas are getting one last blast from "Old Man Winter" on the first day of spring.
Snow is falling in the tri-state area as crews are working to make roads safer by spreading salt.

A winter weather advisory has been issued from Sunday evening into Monday morning for Nassau and eastern Suffolk counties in New York, Monmouth, Ocean and Atlantic counties in New Jersey and south-central Connecticut. A winter weather alert has been issued for eastern Suffolk County.
In Long Island, daffodils and other colorful flowers are blooming despite the snow.
"Spring means blooming life again, but I guess Mother Nature has something else in mind," Richard Ramroop of Farmingdale told CBS2's Brian Conybeare.
New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio said a travel advisory is in effect from Sunday evening through Monday morning, and that alternate side parking will be suspended on Monday.
"We're urging New Yorkers to allow for extra travel time, drive slowly and exercise caution when walking or biking," de Blasio said in a statement.
Most of New York City and suburbs north and west of the city are expected to see a trace to 2 inches of snow. The easternmost parts of Brooklyn and Queens, some areas along the Jersey shore and Nassau and western Suffolk counties should receive 2 to 4 inches. Eastern Suffolk, meanwhile, is forecast to see 4 to 6 inches.
Linda Carlson of Farmingdale had to get the winter shovels back out.
"We set, I think, it's time to put those shovels away, and with that we heard about the snowstorm, so we said we jinxed ourselves," Carlson told CBS2.
CBS2 reports salt was scarce at local hardware stores, instead they had bags of potting soil and planting supplies.
"It's disappointing, but it will be the last one, hopefully," Carlson said.
The snow could still be falling Monday morning east of the city, resulting in a slick morning commute.
The inclement weather is causing arriving flights to be delayed an hour-and-a-half at JFK Airport.
New York City Department of Sanitation has issued a snow preparedness alert ahead of the storm. The alert is effective as of 10 a.m. Sunday.
