Snow Coming Overnight; DOT Issues Alert
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A snow alert was in effect for New York City Saturday, with a possibility of snow in the forecast beginning in the overnight hours.
While snow was falling in Lower Manhattan as of 4:45 p.m. Saturday, a snow alert was placed into effect at 4 p.m. The blue skies from earlier in the day had been supplanted by clouds.
CBS 2 Meteorologist Vanessa Murdock said the snow was not expected to arrive until the overnight hours.
The city may see total accumulations of 1 to 3 inches.
The Department of Transportation has launched its salt spreaders and attached plows, and prepared tire chains. The department is coordinating with the Office of Emergency Management.
The department said it will continue to monitor forecasts.
