Snow And Cold Lead To Treacherous Road Conditions
NEW YORK (CBS 2) -- Winter weather-related trouble started early - at around 12:30 a.m. on Long Island.
A 10-car pile-up on the Northern State Parkway in Dix Hills was just one of the scores of accidents. It initially shut down the westbound Northern State at Commack Road.
Police say there were only minor injuries.
Levittown saw four inches of snow -- the most in the Tri-State -- for a sneak preview of winter, which officially begins next week.

In Islandia, sheriff's deputies responded to the scene of an overturned van on the Long Island Expressway at Exit 58. There was no word yet on injuries there.
In East Islip on the Sunrise Highway, the driver of an SUV found out the hard way how slippery it is out here on these roads.
Back in Queens at the intersection of Clearview Expressway and Northern Boulevard, salt trucks were seen in the early morning hours, working to make the roads safer.
There are road closures in our area but police are constantly working to get them back open.
Driving has been easier, slightly, in other parts of the Tri-State as well. "It's alright. I got a four-wheel drive," said Michael Meehan of Fort Lee. "I love the snow."
"If you go fast off the off-ramp, you're going to slide," he cautioned.
