1 Dead, 1 Missing After Small Plane Crashes In Dutchess County, Destroys Residential Home
UNION VALE, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) – One person is dead and another is still unaccounted after a fiery plane crash in New York's Dutchess County.
Authorities say a small Cessna 303 aircraft carrying three people slammed into a residential home in Union Vale around 4:30 p.m.
The home, which also reportedly had three people in it at the time, was completely engulfed in flames after the plane struck it.
One man on board the plane was killed, the other two men in the Cessna survived the impact.
Police in Dutchess County say a 21-year-old woman in the house has been seriously hurt and her injuries are life-threatening. Another man said to be in the house has still not been found. A third person in the home was uninjured.
FAA officials say the aircraft departed from Sky Acres Airport and was headed to Republic Airport in Farmingdale, Long Island. The plane went down less than a mile from its departure point.
New York State Police added that the plane left Orange County Airport, stopped at Sky Acres to fuel up, and then took off again.
"I saw the house engulfed in flames and people were inside and a woman jumped out of the window and she said another man was inside but we didn't see him at all," witness Rick Plambeck told CBS2.
Authorities also said that several pets were in the house when the plane crashed into it. At least two dogs were rescued from the burning building but then ran from the scene.
A woman on social media who says she knows the victims in the house posted photos of the dogs believed to be missing.
Police are asking anyone in the area who comes across a pair of golden retrievers -- Buow and Charlie -- and a larger dog named Molly to contact local police.
Officials have not released the dead flier's name and the search for the missing Union Vale resident is still ongoing.
