Skydiver Dies After Accident Hitting Ground In Wantage, N.J.
MORRISTOWN, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- A skydiver has died, after being seriously injured in a jump in Wantage, New Jersey earlier this week.
Paul Hayes, 38, passed away Friday night, CBS2 has learned.
Hayes was a seasoned jumper, and his parachute did open in the Thursday afternoon jump at Sussex Airport. But something went horribly wrong on landing, and police said Hayes hit the ground at 70 mph.
A friend jumping with him said Hayes tried a sharp turn near the end of the dive and never recovered.
Hayes was initially taken to Morristown Medical Center in very serious condition.
The Federal Aviation Administration has launched an investigation.
