Signal Problems Force Delays For NJ Transit Commuters Friday Morning
SECAUCUS, NJ (CBSNewYork) - NJ Transit trains are back in business after a switching problem slowed service in and out of Penn Station in New York City.
Northeast Corridor, North Jersey Coast, Morris & Essex and Montclair-Boonton train lines were affected. Residual delays are expected.
There were no reported delays with Amtrak trains.
Switch problems occurred at around 6:00 a.m. in Kearny, NJ Transit spokeswoman Courtney Carroll told the Associated Press. As a result, trains were running on just one track between Newark and Portal Bridge. The switch problem was repaired by 7:20 a.m. However, residual delays kept rippling through the system until about 9:30 a.m.

In July, a customer satisfaction survey showed riders were less than thrilled about NJ Transit. They took issue with the cost of a ride, late trains, service interruptions and more. On a scale of 0-10, NJ Transit customers who were surveyed gave the system an overall 5.2 - "acceptable."
