Siberian Tiger Cubs Debut At Bronx Zoo
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - They're ready for their close-up.
Three magnificent Amur tiger cubs (better known as Siberian tigers) debuted at the Wildlife Conservation Society's Bronx Zoo Wednesday. One is male, two female, and each weighed about three pounds at birth. They've since clawed their way up to 45 pounds. The male may grow to weigh 650 pounds.
The WCS estimates there are fewer than 3,200 tigers remaining in the wild, with only 1,000 of those breeding females.
"The birth of a rare species like Amur tigers is always an exciting time at the Bronx Zoo," said Jim Breheny, WCS Executive Vice President and Bronx Zoo Director. "The cubs will play a vital role as representatives for their wild relatives – inspiring zoo visitors to learn more about the threats these majestic animals face in the wild and what we can do to protect them."
To celebrate the cubs, the Bronx Zoo is offering $3 off the purchase of Total Experience Tickets purchased online. To buy a ticket, click here.
