Shorter Lines As Yonkers Gas Rationing Is Lifted
YONKERS, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) - The clean-up continues from superstorm Sandy, as residents all across the Tri-State Area brace for the Nor'easter headed our way.
But ahead of the storm, one bit of good news for drivers has come out of Westchester County.

The ten-gallon gas limit for those filling up in Yonkers has been lifted.
"Since Yonkers implemented the gas ration late last week, we were able to provide gasoline to residents in a fair and effective manner," said Mayor Mike Spano in a news release. "At this point a gas ration is no longer needed as we are seeing an increase in our supply. However, it is important to understand that while our gas stations now are frequently receiving gas deliveries, not every station is open and lines for gas may continue. Please continue to be patient and considerate when filling tanks as we are still working to bring our city back to a state of normalcy."
At a Shell station on Executive Blvd. in Yonkers, there was just a 10-minute wait to fill up around midday Wednesday, WCBS 880's Irene Cornell reported.
Drivers said they are relieved to be able to fill up in advance of the Nor'easter.

"Actually, I was on empty since Sandy and my car was just parked there. But now knowing that they're gas, I'm trying to get ready just in case gas becomes scarce again," one driver told Cornell.
Other drivers, like one New York City taxi driver, said it was worth the trek to Yonkers for gas.
"I'm just from New York City so I see only 10 cars here, that's why I stopped here to get the gas because I had to take two hours to stay in line in Manhattan to get gas," a New York City cabbie told Cornell.
The driver said even the lines in New York have gotten better from the six-hour waits at some gas stations immediately after Sandy.
The Yonkers gas limit was implemented by executive order on Nov. 1 and limited drivers to ten gallons of gas per 24-hour period.
