Police: Three Shot On PATH Train; Suspect In Custody
JERSEY CITY, N.J. (CBSNewYork) - An investigation was under way after three people were shot following an incident aboard a train at the Pavonia/Newport station in Jersey City.
According to police, the shooting happened on a Journal Square-bound PATH train just before 5 a.m. on Sunday.
As WCBS 880's Ginny Kosola reported, the suspect has been identified as 34-year-old Tari Turpin of East Orange.
Witnesses said an argument broke out between a man and a woman, leading to the shooting.

"This lady was arguing with this guy and he pulled out his gun. And since he pulled out his gun, you gotta shoot your gun when you pull it out," a witness told 1010 WINS' Eileen Lehpamer.
The woman was shot in the ankle and the man she was with, identified as her brother, was struck in the hand, police said.
According to witnesses, the wounded man pulled out his own gun and fired back. It is unclear how the suspect was shot.

Police said the suspect ran out of the PATH station but was apprehended by police a few blocks away.
"We have one person in custody right now and that is the only suspect at this time," Port Authority Police Chief of Department Louie Koumoutsos told WCBS 880's Ginny Kosola.
Turpin was charged with two counts of aggravated assault and weapons offenses, according to authorities.
His gun was recovered.
The two shooting victims and the suspect were hospitalized with non life-threatening injuries Sunday morning.
As a result of the police activity, PATH service had been suspended in both directions between Journal Square and Hoboken until around 8:50 a.m. The Newport/Pavonia station reopened around 10:20 a.m.
