Shark Scare Prompts Swimming Ban On Long Island Beach
LONG BEACH, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- Swimmers were banned from the water for a period of time in one Long Island town following a shark scare on Wednesday.
A 10-foot thresher shark washed up on a jetty in Long Beach, CBS 2 reported.
The shark quickly washed back out into the water.

But as a precaution, swimmers from Magnolia Boulevard to New York Avenue were told to stay on land. The water was later reopened.
Thresher sharks are not known to bite people, but with their long tails and bodies, they can hurt anyone who gets too close, experts said.
