Service Back On Track Following Delays, Canceled Trains For LIRR, Amtrak, NJ TRANSIT
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Train service for the Long Island Rail Road, Amtrak and NJ TRANSIT has returned to normal following an earlier smoke condition in Penn Station that caused major headaches for commuters during Friday evening's rush.
It is unclear which tracks the smoke condition originated from, but sources told CBS 2 that it started shortly after 4 p.m Friday.

NJ TRANSIT was reporting delays of up to 60 minutes for the better part of six hours due to the incident. Service returned to on or close to schedule for all lines at around 10 p.m.
The LIRR was also forced to cancel trains and suffered residual delays due to the smoke condition. The Railroad has since returned to normal service.
LIRR commuters faced another challenge Friday when westbound service was temporarily suspended between Jamaica and Penn Station due to a disabled train in one of the East River Tunnels. Service has since been restored.
