Sen. Chuck Schumer Wants National Park Service To Help Restore Old Oyster Bay Train Station
OYSTER BAY, NY (AP / CBSNewYork) - A U.S. senator says the National Park Service should help renovate a Long Island Rail Road station once used by President Theodore Roosevelt.

Sen. Charles Schumer says the Park Service should evaluate the Oyster Bay railroad station. The station is currently the proposed site of a new visitor's center. He says it is run-down and needs extensive repairs.
"As the station Teddy Roosevelt used to commute to Sagamore Hill, with the fantastic visitors as part of the Oyster Bay Museum, it's a no-brainer that NPS, the parks service, should intervene," said Schumer on Monday.
Schumer says there are several assistance programs the Park Service could use to finance the project. He also notes that the station is only 2.5 miles from Sagamore Hill, which was the former president's home.
The senator says the visitor's center would provide an economic boost to the area. He did not estimate the cost.
A spokesman at Sagamore Hill did not immediately return a call.
