Seen At 11: Get Your Fill Of The New Year's Hottest Diet Trends
NEW YORK(CBSNewYork) -- The number one New Year's resolution for many people is to lose weight and in 2014, there are a slew of diets that offer to help.
From weight loss programs that focus on ancient recipes to meal plans that claim to boost your love life the new year is full of new diets.
"We basically are repenting for all of our misdeeds over the holiday season," Nicolette Pace told CBS 2's Kristine Johnson.
Pace, a nutritionist, said that the new year has a number of new diet trends including one that revolves around mushrooms.
"It's very gimmicky and yes a lot of celebrities are doing it but believe it or not mushrooms are one of those nice little super foods," Pace said.
The diet has been dubbed "The M Plan" and has been adopted by some notable names. Stars like Katy Perry and Kelly Osbourne have reportedly been replacing one meal a day for two weeks with just mushrooms.
Pace said that the dietary fiber in mushrooms helps to promote good digestion which slims you down while keeping you satisfied.
"That's the science behind it. Would I exclusively do it? I don't know, I guess you've got to be quite a mushroom lover," Pace said.
Another celebrity favorite "The Alkaline Program" is geared towards controlling your body's PH level.
"Increasing your fruits and vegetables, decreasing the wheat products and the processed foods and excessive amounts of meat," Pace explained.
If followed strictly the Alkaline diet claims to improve energy levels and reduce headaches and insomnia. Victoria Beckam has reportedly tried it along with Gwyneth Paltrow and Jennifer Aniston.
The Ancient Grains Diet promotes hearty grains like spelt and quinoa.
"When you look at the real science behind it there's some validity to it," Pace said.
The Ancient Grains Diet is the oldest, newest trend and can provide a healthier alternative to white rice and wheat.
Another diet popular with carbohydrate lovers is the carb cycling diet.
"You kind of car load one day and your activity is going to match, an activity that is really going to utilize those carbs," Pace said, "And on the second day you're doing a low carb day and your low intensity exercises."
Finally, the "Sex Diet" has started to make headlines in 2014. The idea is to fill up on foods like leafy green vegetables that are proven to increase libido and then have more sex as exercise.
