Police Search For Suspect Who Crashed Stolen Car Into State Trooper's Vehicle In Newark
NEWARK, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- The search continues for a suspect who caused a wild scene in Newark Tuesday morning.
It all started around 6 a.m. when police responded to a report of a stolen car at the Alamo Rent A Car on Route 1 and 9 near Newark Airport, police said.
The suspect was reportedly shot at by an off-duty police officer working security at the rental car location before taking off in a stolen silver Chevrolet Monte Carlo, CBS 2's Steve Langford reported.

The suspect sped through the streets of Newark before getting into an accident with a New Jersey State Police cruiser, 1010 WINS' Kevin Rincon reported.
A state police detective was taken to a hospital with minor injuries, Langford reported.
"It wasn't going fast it was zooming," said Constance Holmes, who awoke to the sounds of the stolen car racing down her Newark street. "I heard this car coming down, it was coming so fast I jumped out of the bed, looked out the window and got to the corner and I said it's not going to be able to turn."
The Monte Carlo was able to make the turn, and was found abandoned on South 11th Street and Ninth Avenue in Newark, about five miles from the rental car facility, Langford reported. The car had front-end damage and what appears to be a bullet hole in the front windshield.
The suspect remained on the loose Tuesday evening.
Police launched an exhaustive effort in trying to locate the suspect, including deploying police helicopters, which could be seen from Chopper 2.
"They were all over the place," Holmes said. "We thought they were coming in the house, they were so low."
Any information regarding the identity and location of the Monte Carlo's driver should be passed to the Shooting Response Team Command Post at (973) 344-1099.
