Search On For Driver Who Struck, Injured Man In Bergenfield, New Jersey
BERGENFIELD, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- Police in Bergenfield, New Jersey on Friday were trying to find the driver who struck and seriously injured a man in a hit-and-run a night earlier.
Bergenfield police were called at 7:47 p.m. Thursday after a person was struck in the road near 52 Woodbine St. in Bergenfield, according to the Bergen County Prosecutor's office.
They found the victim – identified as Brian Gilligan, 32, of Bergenfield – lying in the northbound lane of the street, prosecutors said. Gilligan was rushed to Hackensack University Medical Center in Hackensack, where he was still being treated for serious injuries Friday night.
At the time of the accident, Gilligan was trying to stop traffic to allow a truck to exit a nearby business, prosecutors said. The driver who struck him was headed north on Woodbine Street at the time of the accident and did not stop, prosecutors said.
The collision was captured by surveillance cameras, and prosecutors believe the vehicle was a dark-colored, four-door sedan, prosecutors said. The vehicle may have front-end damage to its driver's side.
