Search Continues For Person Who Threw Puppy Out Of Moving Car On L.I.
WEST ISLIP, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) – The search is still on for the person responsible for throwing a puppy out of a moving car on Long Island last summer.
Joey the pit bull was just three months old when when he was found in a black plastic bag at the closed Pilgrim Psychiatric Center near the Sagtikos Parkway in Brentwood in August.
He suffered a broken neck and was in critical condition.

In addition to his injuries, vets said Joey was malnourished and underweight, weighing just 10 pounds when he was brought in. A healthy pit bull puppy his age would weigh at least 15 pounds.
Joey was in such poor shape that vets feared he wouldn't make it, but amazingly he did.
After six weeks of medical care and physical therapy, Joey grew to a healthy 21 pounds and was adopted by Dr. Lynda Loudon, the veterinarian who helped nurse him back to health.
"It's a miracle, it doesn't medically make sense that this dog did as well as he has done. I didn't think he'd make it, never mind ever walk again," Loudon told WCBS 880's Sophia Hall. "He acts like a normal dog, he runs with me."
Loudon, who began the charity Healing Haven Animal Fund, is reaching out to the public hoping someone will come forward to help find the person responsible for abusing Joey.
"I'm bringing awareness back to the fact that this abuser is still out there in our community," Loudon said. "If he or she could do this to an innocent puppy, what else are they capable of doing?"
A $27,000 reward is being offered for information leading to an arrest and conviction in the case.
