Search Continues For Driver Who Hit, Killed Man In Chelsea
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police on Sunday continued to search for the hit-and-run driver who killed a recent Cornell University graduate.
The driver did not stop after apparently slamming into Andrew Quinn, 22, of Morris Plains, N.J., near the junction of Twelfth Avenue and 23rd Street at 2:55 a.m.
Officers found Quinn unresponsive at the scene. Paramedics took him to Bellevue Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.
Quinn, a recent graduate of Cornell's School of Hotel Administration, was struck in the crosswalk by a southbound vehicle on Twelfth Avenue – a broad roadway that comprises part of the West Side Highway in the area.
Pedestrians walking near Chelsea Piers told CBS 2's Steve Langford that when traffic is heavy the intersection is safe, but that conditions at night can become extremely dangerous.
Quinn's mother on Sunday was pleading for witnesses to come forward. On Saturday, Linda Quinn said someone must have seen the damage caused to the car by the collision.
Investigators said Sunday they have little information, and no description of the car.
