Scott Pelley Begins As 'CBS Evening News' Anchor
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- It was Scott Pelley's first night as anchor of the "CBS Evening News" on Monday, but you'd hardly know it.
The veteran "60 Minutes" correspondent made no mention of that status. From Afghanistan to France, he covered the news and ended the broadcast by saying: "I'm Scott Pelley. For all of us at CBS News all around the world, good night."
Pelley replaced Katie Couric as anchor and his debut was as understated as hers was bold five years ago. Couric announced a deal Monday to have a daytime talk show on another network.
Monday's CBS newscast was led by a report by correspondent Mandy Clark, on patrol with U.S. forces in Afghanistan. Pelley discussed the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq with correspondents Lara Logan and David Martin.
Pelley waited until after the first commercial break before telling the Anthony Weiner photo scandal story.
