Matt Harvey struck out 11 and allowed just three hits against the Nationals Friday night, but came away with another no-decision in the Mets' 6-4 loss. It was the fourth time this season Harvey had 10 or more strikeouts and allowed three hits or fewer, tying Tom Seaver (1970 & 1971) and R.A. Dickey for the most in a single-season in club history.
Only five Mets pitchers have had more career 10+ K, three hits or fewer games for New York than Harvey:
•Tom Seaver 15
•Sid Fernandez 10
•David Cone 9
•Dwight Gooden 8
•Nolan Ryan 6
•Matt Harvey 5
•Johan Santana 4
•R.A. Dickey 4
PALLADINO: HARVEY MUST START ALL-STAR GAME
The Mets used a position player as a pitcher for the eighth time in club history Sunday when catcher Anthony Recker took the mound for the top of the 9th inning in New York's 13-2 blowout loss to the Nationals.
It was the second straight season Terry Collins used a Mets catcher in the mop-up role, having turned to Rob Johnson last May in Toronto.
Here is how the position players have fared in their pitching appearances for the Mets:

The Mets allowed 10 extra-base hits in Sunday's loss to the Nationals.
It was the 12th time in club history the Mets allowed at least that many extra-base hits in a game and the third time at home. Coincidentally, all three of those home games were also ones in which a Mets position player pitched.
Here are the 12 games in which a Mets opponent reached double figures of combined doubles, triples and homers:

The Mets begin their series with Arizona having gone 29 straight home games without scoring more than five runs, a single-season club mark.
The last time the Mets scored more than five runs in a game at Citi Field was on April 24th in a 7-3 win over the Dodgers when Jordany Valdespin hit a game-ending grand slam in the bottom of the 9th.
The 1968 and 1979 Mets both had 26-game streaks of scoring five or fewer runs. The '68 club ended its streak during the season with a 8-0 win over the Giants on August 20th but the '79 Mets streak carried over to the following season. On May 4th, 1980, in the second game of a doubleheader, the Mets ended a streak of 37 games of scoring less than six runs with a 6-2 victory over San Diego.
The Mets homestand concludes with four games against the Diamondbacks before the Mets begin a nine-game road trip with three games in Milwaukee. After Thursday, the Mets will not return to Citi Field until after the All-Star Game.
The Mets have not faced either Arizona or Milwaukee so far in 2013. The D'backs have not been to Citi Field since May of 2012 when the Mets took two of three. The Mets dropped two of three in Milwaukee the last time the two clubs met last September.
Nine Miles of Rough Road: Pesky Nats. Mets lost two of three at home to Washington, dropping to 4 and 15 in their last 19 games vs. the Nationals at Citi Field dating back to September 12th, 2011.
Happy Recap: Marlon Byrd. Hit .282 (24-for-85) with five doubles, six homers, 16 RBI's and 14 runs scored in June.
