The Mets return home to Citi Field this week to host their NL East rivals, the Miami Marlins and Atlanta Braves.
Jose Reyes comes into the series with a 24-game hitting streak. Reyes' previous career high was 20 games, set in 2005 while he was with the Mets.
The Marlins' club record for consecutive games hitting safely belongs to former Met Luis Castillo, who had a 35-game hitting streak in 2002. The only other club record hitting streak that is held by a former Met is the Toronto Blue Jays record of 28, set by Shawn Green in 1999. Ruben Tejada is also on a career-high hitting streak, coming into this homestand having hit safely in his last 11 games. Tejada is hitting .335 (54-for-161) since returning from the disabled list on June 24.
The Mets have gone 6-0 against the Marlins and Braves at Citi Field so far this season, sweeping both clubs in the three-game series in their lone visits to Flushing in 2012. The Mets have gone 1-2 against the Marlins in Miami and 1-5 against the Braves in Atlanta so far this year.
Daniel Murphy went 4-for-4 and scored two runs in the Mets' 6-2 win at San Diego Saturday night. Murphy has five games in 2012 with at least four hits, tying Pittsburgh's Andrew McCutchen for the most in the majors.
Murphy is just the 5th player in Mets history with five or more four-hit games in a single season:
· Keith Hernandez 7 1985
· Jose Reyes 5 2005, 2006
· Tommie Agee 5 1970
· Frank Taveras 5 1980
· Daniel Murphy 5 2012
Mike Baxter tied an overall Mets club record with five walks in Saturday night's victory. Vince Coleman set that Mets walk record on August 10, 1992, in a 4-2, 16-inning loss against Pittsburgh. Baxter was the 20th Mets player to draw at least four walks in a nine-inning game:
