Schwarzenegger Reflects On Successes, Failures On '60 Minutes'
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork)-- For the first time Arnold Schwarzenegger is talking about the secret that tore up his marriage to Maria Shriver.
The revelations in the book and previews of other bombshells will be aired during an interview on an upcoming edition of "60 Minutes," CBS 2's Dave Carlin reported Friday.
He's had incredible life, marred by an enormous indiscretion. Schwarzenegger is telling his life story -- from the Mr. Universe title that first brought him fame to the movie roles that made him a superstar.
"If my life was a movie, no one would believe it," Schwarzenegger said.
"Then I took the greatest gamble of my life. I went into politics."
The Hollywood A-lister put acting aside for public service. At his side was wife Shriver, a member the storied Kennedy clan.
But their fairy tale would not have a happy ending.
Schwarzenegger recently opened up to "60 Minutes" correspondent Lesley Stahl about the affair with the family's longtime housekeeper that produced a son -- and ultimately ended his marriage.
"I think this was the stupidest thing I've done in the whole relationship. It was terrible. I inflicted tremendous pain on Maria and unbelievable pain on the kids," Schwarzenegger said.
Despite the betrayal, Schwarzenegger told 60 Minutes he has hope for a future with Shriver.
"I think that Maria, you know, is wishing me well with everything that I do," he said.
The former governor of California admitted Shriver hasn't read his book yet, but he said it's a story he's compelled to share with everyone.
"She knows that it's about my whole life and I would not write a book and kind of leave out that part and make people feel like, wait a minute, I'm just getting a story about his success stories and not talk about his failures? And that's not the book I wanted to write," Schwarzenegger said.
Also in his autobiography Schwarzenegger says he had an awkward meeting in 2003 with Republican political guru Karl Rove, who he says predicted the 2003 California recall election would never happen and that Condoleezza Rice was Rove's pick. There's been no comment yet from Rove.
