Schumer: No Concrete Cover For Yonkers Reservoir
YONKERS, N.Y. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- The Environmental Protection Agency won't require New York City to build a concrete cover over a billion-gallon Yonkers reservoir, at least for now.

In a letter to Sen. Charles Schumer dated Friday, the EPA said it would review the issue and the city won't have to build the cover in the meantime.
Federal rules required the city to build the $1.6 billion cover over Hillview Reservoir to protect it from contaminants. But local officials said it wasn't necessary and the city is already building a new ultraviolet plant to disinfect tap water.
There was no immediate further comment from the EPA.
