Schumer Wants Homeland Security To Investigate JFK Airport Security Scare
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Sen. Charles Schumer, D-N.Y., is calling on the Department of Homeland Security to investigate a security scare that caused chaos at John F. Kennedy International Airport.
Last Sunday, a terminal was evacuated when there were reports of shots fired.
The incident was not a shooting, but rather a loud celebration by passengers watching the Olympics.
Schumer said the Homeland Security investigation is needed because airport security is handled by several agencies.
"Well, we saw what happened when there would be a would-be terrorist incident, these agencies are not in coordination and panic ensues," Schumer explained. "And we're sort of lucky in this incident, not only that there was no terrorist incident, but that no one was hurt as people were running for safety, as can often happen."
Schumer said reports that TSA agents abandoned their posts during the scare and that camera feeds were difficult to access are completely unacceptable.
