Schumer: 'Gang Of Eight' Reaches Deal On Immigration
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - Sen. Charles Schumer said Friday that the so-called "Gang of Eight" Senators working on immigration reform have reached a deal and their bill could be presented very soon.
Schumer said the deal means border security will be tightened and future waves of illegal immigration will be prevented.
"In terms of the 11 million who are here, they can work, pay taxes immediately. But it's a long path to citizenship where they have to work, pay taxes, learn English, stay clear of the law and admit wrongdoing and pay a fine," Schumer told WCBS 880 reporter Rich Lamb.

Of the 'gang,' - the four Democrats and four Republicans - who negotiated the deal, he said each of the eight would have written a different bill, so they compromised.
He said when the actual bill is drafted, each has to sign off on it.
Schumer told Lamb he's upbeat about the bill's chance of passage.
Among the eight are Republicans John McCain of Arizona and Marco Rubio of Florida.
