Schumer Announces $103 Million In Sandy Aid For Hospitals
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Sen. Charles Schumer said $103 million in federal aid is coming to the New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation to help with repairs from Superstorm Sandy.
The money from the Federal Emergency Management Agency will go to facilities including Bellevue Hospital, Coney Island Hospital, Coler-Goldwater Specialty Hospital and Metropolitan Hospital Center.
"One million New Yorkers rely on these hospitals -- one million. And that's why it's so important to get them back on their feet," Schumer told reporters, including 1010 WINS' Eileen Lehpamer.
Schumer Talks About The Federal Aid Dollars
In previous federal aid disbursements, $114 million has gone to New York University Langone Medical Center.
The House of Representatives on Tuesday passed a $50.5 billion package of recovery and related aid for Superstorm Sandy and other disasters.
The package was separated into a $17 billion base bill for immediate recovery needs and a $33.5 billion amendment for longer-term recovery efforts and projects to curb damages from future disasters.
