Schumer And Senate Challenger Townsend Debate
POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. (AP) -- Democratic Sen. Charles Schumer and Republican challenger Jay Townsend are debating for the first time.
The televised debate at 7 p.m. Sunday at Marist College in Poughkeepsie will be shown live statewide on NY1 and YNN stations.
A Marist poll on Friday reported that Schumer leads Townsend by 28 percentage points among likely voters as the
Democrat seeks election to a third term on Nov. 2.
Townsend, a Hudson Valley political consultant, had lobbied hard for a debate with Schumer.
